PAL Countries

Here is a list of countries which use the PAL television system.  For VHS, S-VHS, Betamax, Video8, Hi8, Digital8 and MicroMv, these can be transferred to a NTSC DVD by Trevor Thurlow Productions.  Note that S-VHS, Video8 and Hi8 recordings from SECAM equipment were actually recorded in PAL on the tape and I can run those tapes.  SECAM was never used on Digital Equipment and as a result all Digital8 and MicroMV equipment sold in SECAM countries recorded in PAL and I can run those tapes.  Also, before the reunification of Germany in 1990, West Germany used the PAL TV system, while East Germany used SECAM; however, VHS VCR's in both countries could record in both PAL and MESECAM.  SECAM was discontinued, in favour of PAL, in Germany with the 1990 reunification.

If your recording was made on equipment intended for one of these countries, then it will likely be a PAL recording on the tape.  Just taking your NTSC camcorder from Canada to such a country, for example, does not of course dictate what television system your recording is.  It would still be NTSC, just as if you had recorded it in Canada.
